At the Hospital

We are so glad to finally have this little one join our family! Ethan came 2 weeks before his due date. My amniotic fluids were low so I scheduled and induction for the morning of the 5th. Labor was fairly smooth, but the baby was under stress toward the end, so I was so relieved when he was delivered without complication. He was having a hard time breathing so they immediately whisked him off to the nursery to stabilize him. I didn't get to even see him! That was really awful. Reed went with the baby, so I sat alone and waited. . . and waited. After about and hour and a half they finally wheeled me off to recovery, and they took me past the nursery so I could see the baby. The nurse held him up to the window for me, and I knew immediately that he was mine! What a beautiful child! He looked just like my other kids. Of course I started to bawl, and I was was a total mess until I could calm myself down! I was so happy when I was finally able to hold him. He is just the sweetest thing, with lots of light brown hair and beautiful, long eyelashes. I am so in love!

True to tradition, we had no name for the baby. Although the only name we were seriously considering was Ethan, I wasn't totally sold on it. It took awhile for me to commit---as usual! We gave him the middle name Douglas after my Mom's dad.

I wish the pictures from the hospital had turned out better. But, our camera can be a bit finicky, and Reed is pretty much allergic to taking pictures, so this is what we've got!

The boys were super excited about their new brother. Everyone wanted a turn to hold him.
