Ten for Tuesday 6.10.08

  1. Happy Birthday to me! Another year older (and wiser too. . .well. . . maybe. . .). Everyone always claims it's their "29th birthday," so I figure this is going to be a really great year. I had a good day. Thank you everyone who sent cards and emails, called or gave a gift. I have great friends and family. Reed is always so thoughtful when it comes to birthday gifts, I gave him a pretty lame list to work from, but he found a few things I really liked. It's hard to see from this picture, but he gave me a really great set of stacking bowls in fun colors (among other things). I guess the Ipod and Tivo will have to wait for another year! Hah.

2. Stake Lagoon Day is always a big priority on Reed's calendar, but it was just so crowded this year, that I think it may be the last time for us. I think next year we'll pick a slow day and pay full price so we don't spend quite so much time in line. The kids had a blast, and were totally worn out by the end of the day. I took the kids home for bed, and Reed's mom came to watch them so that Reed and I could go on some of the bigger rides together. It's been awhile since I've been on a roller coaster. I guess I really am getting older, because it's a lot harder than it used to be. I get nauseated easily, and I've had a headache ever since Friday. Still, it's just once a year, and I am proud to say that I have now experienced Wicked and The Spider.

This is a picture of Ty holding hands with his little friend Ella. They were fighting while standing in line for a ride, and then ended up sharing an airplane. There must have been magic in the air because they decided to be friends again and held hands for the next 5 minutes. So cute!

3. Monday night we went with some friends to see Horton Hears a Who for FHE. It was Ty's first time at the movie theater. We bought popcorn, but Reed didn't want to splurge on a drink, so Ty spent the entire movie taking sips out of our friend's drink. Poor John just couldn't enjoy his drink after that!
4. Ty has had a total potty training breakthrough! Something has finally clicked and he is now taking himself to the bathroom all by himself. Hardly any accidents! I am a happy mama.
5. Michael recently taught himself how to burp. It's pretty funny to watch. He also has started trying to snort every time he laughs. Boys. Ick.
6. Is anyone else ready for some warm weather? Bring on the 80s. Michael begs me every day to get out the pool and turn on the sprinklers, but it is just too cold!
7. Okay, time to brag. Our grass looks good for the first time ever. I mean really good. I've even had two of my neighbors tell us ours is the best lawn on the block. Reed put some good winterizer on it last fall, and the Scotts guy got rid of all our crab grass and clover. I love it! I really would love to go out and have a nice nap on the grass, but I have a feeling that that will have to wait for another lifetime,
8. Last week I started going to a summer "boot camp" at the church in the mornings on Tuesday and Thursday, and then jogging on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I had my first encounter with an exercise ball, and let's just say it wasn't pretty. We did push ups on the ball, and I seriously just about did a face plant straight onto the floor. Nice. At least when you exercise with friends there is someone there to laugh with you when you have a klutz moment. I always feel bad when I hear stories of people who are all alone and totally biff it off the treadmill at the gym. How embarrassing. Being seen doing push ups on a stability ball right after I've rolled out of bed up at 6:15 AM is nearly that embarrassing, but I'm still having fun, and I'm glad I've got some friends to work out with.
9. $4.00/Gallon for gas? Ouch! We're now spending around $500 a month on gas. And don't even get me started on groceries. I can never stay under my budget. Blake is finally drinking milk instead of formula and Ty is now out of diapers, so I'm really hoping that my grocery budget will recover quickly and we'll still be able to fill my tank every once in awhile.
10. I just got back from Enrichment and we learned about emergency preparedness. I keep thinking I'm getting closer, but I've still got a lot of work to do. I guess it's time to get out my preparedness folder and figure out my next project to start working on.

What a good ten for tuesday! I wish I could do the boot camp with you girls. I am there in spirit though. Such a cute pic of Ty and Ella. Adorable! And yes your GRASS is the best on the block. I keep telling Chuck- Are you sure we can't afford Scott's this year somehow?? I mean look at the Rawson's yard- they are probably embarassed we are their neighbors.
It looks great!

Cute Ella and Ty! Ty was telling me all about going on the potty - he's very funny! Now if I can only get Jack out of diapers ...

Happy Birthday Jessica! Congratulations to Ty and to you and Reed for having the greatest grass on the block. We'll just take any grass that is our own at this point.

PS. No we aren't reconsidering moving, just the timing. Why go rushing out there when it would benefit Jacob's dissertation and our peace of mind to put it off just a few weeks? We'll see.

Happy Birthday Jess! Around lunchtime that day, I thought to myself, "Oh! Today is Jessica's birthday. I should call her or at least email her." But then that thought was replaced by some chaos going on with my kids and it never came back.
