Ten for Tuesday 11.04.08 Election Day Edition

1. Election Day! Do you believe it's finally here?! There is definitely excitement in the air. I'm so glad I voted last week so I don't have to go out in the rain and cold. I'm sure I'll be glued to my TV tonight. Anyone else?

2. What a crazy, busy, fun week! On Thursday I got to volunteer in Michael's class during his Halloween party. It was fun to see Michael in his class interacting with the other kids. We got to decorate cookies, and Michael got wrapped up like a mummy in toilet paper.

3. We packed Halloween day with fun activities so there was no whining about waiting to go out trick-or-treating. In the morning we went over to the park to feed the ducks. Blake has never fed the ducks, and he had so much fun---except for when the goose bit his finger!

This kid has just recently discovered slides, and he was seriously in heaven for a good 3 hours!

4. In the afternoon we went next door to Jessica's Halloween party. She rented a bounce house, and the kids were happily occupied for another few hours. I was happily occupied eating her awesome sugar cookies, but that's another story.

This really was a lot of fun, and a great way to pass the afternoon. Thanks for all the fun Jessica!

4. We had lots of fun decorations this year, but I'll be glad to put them away for another year.

5. Blake wasn't so sure about being Elmo, but he was darn cute!

Ty went as Dracula. That cheap face paint was disgusting---and even worse the second day!

Michael went as Yoda. I had told Michael that we could maybe make some cool ears for his costume, but I ran out of time, and they didn't really turn out, so I thought we'd just bag the idea. . . that is until Michael decided last minute that he really wanted ears. So, we threw these on. They didn't last long, but Michael loved them. I wish I had gotten a picture of him with his hood on. It really looked cool. My mom did a great job with the costumes!

6. Reed took the boys out trick-or-treating with some friends. I always feel just a little bit gypped when I have to stay home and pass out candy. It totally feels like I'm missing out on all the action. But, I was happy to be inside when the rain started, and I got to listen to Doug Fabrizio and the Plan B Theater Company perform Frankenstein on the radio while I did the dishes without the kids around. Not a bad evening!

The boys came home with SO MUCH CANDY, and I still have a TON left over myself. I really don't know if I should allow them to eat all of that junk. Anyone have a good rule at their house regarding the Halloween haul?
When the boys got home we went out to trick-or treat at Nana and Grandpa's house, and also at Great Nana's. When we got to my parent's house, my Dad had a good laugh at Reed's McCain mask. And then he looked at me and said, "You know, Jessica, I hate to say this, but you could almost pass as Sarah Palin!" I just started to laugh. My Dad apparently thinks I just thought it would be fun to trick-or-treat in heels. Once I pointed out that I was actually trying to look like Palin, my Dad really got a good laugh. He told me to put a picture up so my Grandpa could see, so here you go! My favorite addition to this costume was the $150,000.00 price tag.

At Great Nana's we enjoyed homemade doughnuts. Yum! I ate three doughnuts in one day. . . which I think is a record for me. I also inhaled probably 6 or 7 cookies at Jessica's. . . Which leads me to my next point. . .
7. This month's Health magazine has the following statistic:
The average woman tries 104 diets between the ages of 18 and 70.
The average diet lasts 5 weeks.
If you do the math that means the average woman spends 10 years of her life on a diet.
How depressing is that?! I think it's about time I get going!

8. Saturday morning I headed out the door for "Super Saturday." I set up a quilt for those who wanted to come and have lunch and visit, but didn't have much crafting to do. Mostly it was just me and Kristy working on it. (Thanks Kristy!) It got about half-way finished. . . I guess that's good news for the next time we need a quilt. . . it's already 1/2 done!

9. In the afternoon we went out and had family pictures taken. The leaves were just beautiful. My neighbor Jessica took the pictures, and I can't wait to see them! I know we got a few really good ones of the boys. I am so lucky to have such great neighbors!

10. Does Daylight Savings time confuse anyone else? Seriously! I've been doing this my entire life, and it still confuses me! Every time we have to change the clocks my sense of time gets totally screwed up. I go throughout the day with no idea what time it is. When I woke up on Sunday morning my alarm clock said 7:05. I thought, oh it's really 6:05. By the time I got downstairs the clock in the kitchen said 8:20. What the? Honestly! What time is it anyway? Did Reed change some of the clocks but not all of them? I finally figured out that it was indeed 7 am. I forgot that my alarm clock automatically sets itself. I've been walking around the last few days thinking that it feels pretty dark and gloomy. Where did my 70 degree weather go? Where is the sunshine? It's going to take awhile for me to be okay with the sun going down at 5 pm. While I'm griping. . . Who ever thought it would be fun to fast for an EXTRA hour while facing a huge bowl full of Halloween candy?!

HI! I found your blog because of Mara, then Adri. So, anyway, when I saw your pic, I knew you were Sarah Palin even before I read it. :) You look great! love, Carrie

Great costumes--especially you and Reed! As far as the candy goes, I ate most of my kids' candy myself--but my sister in law buys her kids' candy from them. I think she pays either 10 or 25 cents per piece. Two of her kids turn over every single piece of candy for the money. Her other two turn in about half. When I asked her what she did with the candy, she said she just chucks it! I almost offered to take it off her hands, but then remembered that I too will be spending 10 years of my life on a diet--starting now.

Cute costumes! We have that same Elmo costume and Logan would have worn it this year excpet that he's to short and let's face it he was meant to be monkey! As far as the candy goes I threw out all of the junk and took a huge bag of what was left to super saturday so I wouldn't eat it all myself! Glad you guys had a great Halloween!

Super fun post. Your kids were really cute. I loved the Yoda ears. I usually throw away the crap.....like smarties.....I hate smarties. And keep the chocolate. But, I always wind up hiding most of it from my kids and bringing a few pieces out at a time. Well, unless it's Dallin. He could eat candy for a meal.

I give them candy until they start turning green then I freeze the rest for Christmas. You were a great Palin and the kids costumes turned out great!

Those diet statistics are depressing! You made a great Palin and I love that Reed was McCain.
