I've become a slave to Tuesday nights. It would be so nice if I could actually think about this post ahead of time. Sometimes it's such a pain to come up with 10 things each week, but I'm so glad that it forces me to stay up to date. Plus, if I miss a post I can count on Lacey giving me greif. Always too much to do. . . Anyway, here we go. . .
1. O Baby! What an election! I'm not going to talk politics, but I'm feeling good about the outcomes of the presidential election and Proposition 8, and I HOPE that this country is headed in the direction of positive CHANGE.
2. Once again, we've had a busy, busy week. I think I may be losing my mind. Those three pregnancies definitely have cost me some much needed brain cells, because I just cannot seem to remember everything I'm supposed to do. Awhile back I got frustrated with having to do laundry every day and constantly having laundry out that needed to be folded and put away. It was never ending! So I decided to try and have a "laundry day" like most normal people who also have a "grocery day" and such things. I'm more the kind of person who wakes up each day and looks around to see what most needs to get done rather that looking at the calendar and saying "Oh, it's Thursday, time to water the plants and do the dusting." But I digress. . . I decided to give this whole laundry day idea a try. I thought it would be so nice to do it once and have the mess put away for the rest of the week. The problem is that if I don't put my first load in before breakfast and keep it pumping all day long, there is no way I can get it all done in one day. And, forget about doing anything else during the day. So, when Monday rolled around this week and I had 4 appointments and overdue library books, there was no way I could postpone "laundry day" because it hadn't been done for an entire week and none of us wanted to go without clean underwear. Seriously, Mondays are kicking my butt. I think I'm going to have to rethink this whole laundry business. In between all of my comings and goings yesterday I would switch the laundry out, and proceed to forget about the other things I needed to remember. Like when I drove to the library without my library card and had to make the trip twice. And, when I thought I had turned on the dishwasher---only to figure out that I had only run the 10 minute rinse cycle. I discovered this only after I had unloaded the dishwasher half way. I also forgot to leave out some quilts that I promised to Sarah Jane, but that was on Sunday, so I really don't have an excuse other than those pregnancies stealing my brain cells.
3. While I'm complaining about laundry. . . I recently decided to try out liquid laundry detergent. I leave out the details, but I currently have two large bottles from Costco that are open, on top of two huge boxes that are also open. Long story. Anyway, I cannot stand the liquid soap. It is all over the top of my washer and dryer, and it drips down the side of the bottle, and it's impossible to rinse off my hands. Why do people use this stuff? I cannot wait until it's gone. I guess there is one silver lining in the storm cloud known as dirty laundry.
4. Still complaining. . . hang in there. Did anyone see the story on KSL about UDOT and the sound wall? Maddening. I'm so glad the guys at UDOT turn their brains on every morning when they check in to work. I'm so glad they are dumping millions of taxpayer dollars down the drain. If anyone is interested, I got the scoop from Lana yesterday, and I can tell you all about the threats UDOT employees have made to her, and all about how they will probably be tearing the sound wall down in the not-so-distant future when they widen lanes on I-15. So glad $2.5 million dollars were dumped down the drain instead of being put to good use.
5. Last complaint, I promise! Well, maybe. . . Who thought up "early out" days at school? Argh! Michael has an entire week of early days, which means he goes to school for less than 2 hours every day, and it totally throws a loop in our schedules. By the way, thank you to my friends who have reminded me about school starting early. Do you mind calling again tomorrow? Maybe around 11 o'clock or so? The reason for early out is SEP. Code for Parent-teacher conferences. This was actually kind of fun. I love it when other people tell me how great my kids are. Michael's teacher wrote on his evaluation that he "has lots of energy." You don't have to say that twice! Of course, she would like to see that energy channeled toward listening to instructions, but we're taking baby steps!
6. Blake has made new advances in naughtiness. No baby steps for him. Last night he learned how to climb up onto the bar stools, and thus onto the counter. Honestly! Is no place sacred? I have been trying to hard to get my counters cleared off, but now I have a new incentive. I do not remember Michael and Ty being this intent on mischief. Is it possible that I have forgotten?

Blake is also completely obsessed with my computer and chair. We replaced our old laptop last summer, which was never a temptation to the kids because we could just close the screen. But now, the temptations of the keyboard and the mouse are just more than Blake can resist!

Lastly, one of Blake's very favorite no-nos is stealing the boys' toothbrushes and toothpaste from the edge of the bathroom counter. Yuck. I constantly have to sanitize their toothbrushes in the dishwasher. Blake is such a funny kid, and constantly keeping me on my toes. I just wish he would play with regular baby toys. . . By the way, did I mention that he has made his debut in nursery? Oh, happy day!
7. On Saturday Reed had to give a fireside to the Elder's quorum and their wives about wills and trusts. He is so glad it's over! I thought it went really well, and I hope everyone came away with some good information.
8. Reed is currently trying to fill 2 ward temple assignments, and a week's worth of 5-hour DI assignments. I have a feeling that the saints who filled last week's cannery assignment will probably be the same ones who show up at DI. I love service opportunities, but do they all have to fall in the same 2-week period? Isn't that how it always is? You have nothing to do Friday night, but 4 conflicting things on Saturday. Choices, choices.
9. On Saturday Reed and I made another food storage run at Costco. People were seriously pointing and staring! Funny. Who knows if we'll ever actually eat all of that wheat and vegetable oil, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that we have it if we need it.
10. Okay, I know I'm probably going to regret this one in the morning because I'm totally going to embarrass myself right now, but here goes. These are just a couple of snapshots of my house this morning. Seriously, how did I get to this point?
The boys' room:
The boys' room:
The toy room:
The bedroom with the some of the afore mentioned laundry:
The kitchen:
I should have included a picture of how the kitchen looked last night when Reed came home from work, but I wasn't willing to embarrass myself that bad.
I just can't seem to ever get ahead of the game, let alone catch up. Maybe some of this chaos is contributing to those lost brain cells. . . Looking at these pictures should inspire me to hit the ground running tomorrow morning to get things tidied up, but really it just makes me want to curl up with a good book. Austenland anyone?

One day doesn't work well over here for laundry either.
My girls have done the tooth brush thing too but did you know that The Dollar Tree in Centerville sells a 5 pack of decent soft children's tooth brushes for only a buck!!!
I watched the KSL report on the news wall but was left with the feeling that they aren't going to change a thing. Tearing it down! That's a sickening waste but not very surprising considering it's pretty common in our government to throw money around instead of using the brains God gave us to fix the problem.
Wow- girlfriend- you do have a lot going on. Crazy. Your house is still cleaner than mine.
hmmmm.....your house looks like mine. Dallin loves to get the toothbrushes too! layundry is evil. considering that Dallin wears clothes for about an hour or two a day and then I have to wash them. tisk tisk
My house is a mess too. Even when I try really hard to clean it. Housekeeping just doesn't come naturally to me. This week at our house: I washed EVERYTHING on Monday. I folded everything on Tuesday (It was heaped on the couch and in laundry baskets waiting.) I put the piles of folded clothes on top of our bed so Brandon would have to put them away before he would go to bed. (Sneaky, huh? I knew he'd want to go to bed before me.) So, when he saw all the piles, he said, "It looks like we're moving."
I feel your pain...and tell Reed he did a good job on his fireside!
Laundry day is for the birds, I end up doing a load every other day just to stay caught up. Don't stress about your house, it just means your normal. I only clean when I know someone is coming over which isn't very often. We just move the messes around and dig through them when something is missing!
I used to try to do my laundry on Mondays. Now I sort the laundry on Friday and do a load or two. Then I do more loads on Saturday and start folding. I dig through laundry baskets on Sunday to find clean underwear for all of us and quickly iron a shirt for Brett and Samuel. If I'm lucky, I finish folding Monday night and get everything put away Tuesday morning. I have a day or two of no laundry before I start all over again. I've just decided not to have any expectations anymore. It gets done when it gets done.
I read Austenland--let me know what you think about it.
I ALWAYS have laundry sitting around waiting to be folded. I can get it through the wash/dry cycle without a hiccup but it's the folding/putting away that drives me to the brink.
And if my dirty house looked as good as your dirty house I would be a happy mama. My kids know how to make REAL messes (see post entitled, "there's Peanut Butter On my Carpet" - it's late and I can't properly capitalize...).
