Ten for Tuesday 1.20.09 Inauguration Edition

1. Big day! I enjoyed watching the inauguration this morning and part of the parade this afternoon. Could have done without Maria Carey's "Hero" tonight, but whatever. There seemed to be a lot of excitement in the air. It felt like a new year and a fresh start. Good luck Mr. President. . . you've got your work cut out for you. I thought this was a really stunning picture of this morning's ceremony.

2. On the home front. . .

3. Cookie time! There must me something about this time of year that just screams "Make Sugar Cookies!" because I was looking at my pictures and we did this almost exactly one year ago. Blake was SO excited to be able to help pour in the ingredients. He felt so big!

We wanted to spend some time with Natalie and Krysta before they flew back home, and I thought making cookies would be a great way to spend the afternoon. Krysta gave me a huge package of cookie cutters last year for Christmas, and the kids just love picking out different shapes.

Isn't this a darling picture of Natalie and Ty? She's grown up so much since the last time we saw her, and we are going to miss her!

Jimmy came too. I think he was more excited about playing with the toys than making cookies. Jimmy is an incredibly sweet little boy. And talented too. He's recently started throwing up on demand. His parents are so proud!

4. Naughty #3 is up to no good. I've had a LONG week! He finally figured out how to climb the ladder to the top of the bunk bed. He was really ticked off when I took the ladder down and put it away in closet.

This picture totally cracks me up. Don't worry. I'm not going to show you the bottom half of this photo. Probably not a good idea to post it online. Two mornings in a row I went to get Blake out of bed and I found him completely undressed. Even his diaper. I was so lucky that he hadn't already dirtied his diaper that morning.

5. Sort of on the same subject. . . Well, not really, but whatever. . . The other day Reed came home and told me about this guy at the office who goes into the bathroom to brush his teeth after lunch, and then meticulously scrubs his hands with soap and water. Then he uses the bathroom and returns to work. Without washing. Weird. Gross.

6. Michael started Karate class last week. It was a little bit of madness. There were probably at least 50 kids who showed up on the first day. They are going to split the class, but still. That's a lot of little kids to control! Hopefully the class thins out a little bit next week.
7. This is what I like to see Michael doing.

Unfortunately the ONLY thing he wants to do is play video games. Remember how much he loved his new Legos? Remember how good he was at painting pictures and writing stories? No more. The only thing that matters is video games. And, although we did actually get a Wii for Christmas, we didn't get all of the "cool" games that Ben has. So, he still wants to go to Ben's house every day after school. He can't play video games every waking hour, but he wants to. I get it. I loved video games as a kid, and still do. I've had a great time playing with the Wii and sometimes I wish I had the time to just sit and play it all day. I knew Michael would be excited about the Wii and that it would be tough to get him to turn it off. But, I didn't realize he would completely lose interest in everything else. It seems like his creativity that I love so much has been sucked up into a black hole. Is this just a phase? Will the novelty wear off? I hope so.

8. Please! No more holidays! I beg you! One long Sunday without TV + two days off from school+ trying to limit video games = Torture! It seems like the kids just barely went back to school, and now we've already got two days off. And, SEP-early-day-out-week is fast approaching. Can't we just go back to a normal routine already?

9. Note to Mother Nature: PLEASE! Deliver us from this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad inversion!

10. I've been in a little bit of a funk for the last few days. I thought I'd post this as a reminder to myself to cheer up.

I think I'll go put the kids to bed and curl up with some American Idol and Lost (which premiers tomorrow---wahoo!). Add a little Valentine mix, and that's sure to cheer me up.

That is the funniest look on Blake's face. I think he wants to fight.

Quit teasing me with you Valentine Mix!!! What is it and how do you make it?? And the diaper thing drives me crazy! I might have to put some duck tape around Jack's just to keep it on! Cute picture, though!

Loved this blog. That Natalie is one adorable little girl. And of course you already know what I think about your boys!

I loved the picture of Blake in his crib. He looks so mischievious! What a character!

I love the way you refer to your boys as "Naughty # 1,2, or 3." It makes me laugh every time. What personalities!

I laughed when I saw that picture of Blake because he looks so mischevious. I've seen that face on my littel monkeys, how cute. Well Logan is back in onsies so he can't take his daiper off, it's totally annoying but the only thing I could do to keep him from stripping down naked every day:)

Sorry about Michael and the video games. Even at our house, we have to put the Wii in the basement sometimes to help Dan focus on other parts of life.
