Wow. I've been gone from the blogging world so long, I've practically forgotten how to do it! Seriously! Why can't I drag and drop my pictures anymore?! Anyway, it's time for me to get caught up, and I wanted to share some of the highlights from our trip. D.C. reminded me so much of London---from the amazing buildings to people watching on the Metro. It was such an adventure! Reed and I had never been out east before, so there was a LOT to see and do. Everyone told us there was way too much to do and we'd never be able to see it all, but we sure tried. They also warned us that there was a lot of walking involved in a trip to D.C., and they were so right. I think the only time my feet have hurt more in my entire life was last year on trek when I had a thousand and one blisters---and maybe after an especially long day of dancing in those super-tight high heeled ballroom shoes at BYU, but that was a long time ago and the memory of pain has faded into rose colored memories. Honestly, me feet hurt so bad! And there were a few times when I just had to sit down and take a rest. Maybe we could have planned the trip a little bit better, but it felt like we were constantly racing back and forth across town to make it to our next scheduled tour. I was so glad to not be dragging little kids around. This was definitely not a kid-friendly trip. Reed and I really enjoyed having some one-on-one time, but I think we were both ready to come home and see the kids again. Part of me feels guilty for spending so much on vacation that did not involve the kids, but only a small part of me. I really needed a "mommy break," and this was just the ticket. Since we've come home I've been able to enjoy my kids a lot more. I definitely think we should go away more often!
Here are the highlights:
If you've been there, done that, just scroll down and enjoy the memories!
The White House
The Smithsonian Museums
Gettysburg
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (where they make money)
The Washington Monument
View from the top

One of the only shots we got with both of us in it!
The Holocaust Museum
The Jefferson Memorial. We took a bus tour at night to see the monuments, and it was awesome to see them all lit up at night. It was pouring rain almost the entire tour, and Reed and I were the only ones to actually get off the bus to see the monuments. The rest of the people probably hated us for prolonging the tour, but come on. . . Who's afraid of a little rain?
The FDR Memorial
The Lincoln Memorial
The WWII Memorial
The Supreme Court
The Capitol
The National Archives (Declaration of Independence)
Iceberry. I've never thought of myself as a big frozen yogurt fan. Sure, it's fine, but I can think of a lot of other treats I'd rather have. But, we went out to Georgetown and had dinner at a fun Ethiopian restaurant and then stopped in at Iceberry for some dessert. I was hesitant, but I decided to try the plain (not vanilla) yogurt, and it was so good. I have been craving it ever since. I need to learn how to make it. I heard there is a new frozen yogurt place out by Cafe Rio, and I think I may need to go check it out.
Mt. Vernon (George Washington's Estate)
Lost Season 5 finale. I couldn't believe my luck! I thought for sure I'd miss this while I was away and have to watch it on my computer screen when I got home. But, I lucked out and got to watch it. I'm pretty sure this was the only night our entire trip that we got back to our place by 9:00, so I was able to see the whole thing! Wahoo!

Arlington Cemetery

Air & Space Museum

The D.C. Temple
Jamestown

Mongolian Peking Restaurant. Reed was having a craving for a Mongolian BBQ like one he ate at on his mission and we found this place in Williamsburg. It was like he had died and gone to heaven! He kept saying, "If only my brothers and Dad could be here. . . "
Colonial Williamsburg

Krysta & Adam's house. We had such a nice time visiting with Krysta and Adam and their two adorable kids. Wish we had spent more time relaxing with them!

Reed got to go to a Yankee's game with Adam, and it was probably the highlight of his trip. So glad I didn't have to go!
We had such a fun time, but we're glad to be home, and I think the next trip I plan is going to be on a beach somewhere quiet. . .

Looks fabulous! We are headed there in a few months to be with family and I cannot wait! Glad you had a good time and glad you are back with your kids.
Wow, it looks like you hit just about everything! Just imagine taking that trip with 4 younger siblings who were fighting the whole time! Glad you had a great time!
What a fun trip. Glad you got a little get-away before summer.
It sounds like you did it all! I think the hardest part about going on trips alone is that you're torn between enjoying yourself and just wanting to get back home to be with your kid(s). The first time I left Austin for a week was so hard. And I think D.C. does drive you to only dream about beach vacations for years to come!!
Awesome! I'm glad you are back blogging. Also glad that you guys had such a good time. No kids? What would that be like? I can only dream.
I love vacations without kids! Looks like you guys had a great time, you got some beautiful shots:)
Looks like a great trip! I love historical trips like that.
