After The Hundred Secret Senses I needed something light and easy to read. This definitely fit the bill. I found it on the shelf in my little sister's room and remembered that Cynthia Voigt was one of my favorite authors as a kid. It was a Newberry Medal winner and also the winner of and Edgar award, so I thought I'd give it a try. I was not very suspenseful. In fact, it was entirely predictable, which is not a good thing for a mystery novel. That said, it was written for twelve-year-olds, so what can you expect? I've been pretty disappointed with the youth fiction I've read lately, and I probably just need to come to grips with the fact that I'm not a teenager anymore. It was actually a pretty good book, just a little too far below my reading level. Next up is a book club pick that I'm not terribly excited about. I've got to get my hands on a really good book soon, or I may have to break out my 24 season 6 DVDs. . . Maybe I'll do that anyway! I just brought a load home from the library, and hopefully something in that stack will inspire me. Anyone have a really GREAT book to share?

Jessica, I can give you four or five books that I have really liked, but I warn you they are light reading. Nothing deep and life changing. Don't get me wrong, I like those at times, but sometimes (like right now with an abundance of sleep deprivation) I can only handle those I can read without thinking much. Here are a few titles:
An Untamed Land by Lauraine Snelling (the first in a series)
These Is My Words by Nancy E Turner (also the first of a series)
Mrs. Mike by Nancy Freedman
By the Light of a Thousand Stars by Jamie Langston Turner
A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute
Oh I loved These Is My Words! I'll put the others on my list to read. Thanks!
I also liked These Is My Words and Mrs. Mike. As for young adult, I also found the Calendar Papers to be completely predictable, but I've read some better young adult fiction lately. I recommend Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It's a bit on the heavy side but well written as is The Book Thief. For lighter stuff, I've really enjoyed Blood Red Horse by K.M. Grant and the second in that series Green Jasper. I just read my first Shannon Hale book The Goose Girl and loved that too. Those last three have lighter themes but are really enjoyable. I also recommend A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly. Let me know what you think!
