I was about 75% finished with this post when my modem broke last Tuesday. It was a few days before the Internet was back up and running. I couldn't bear to just delete the post, and I didn't want to have to start over, so I'm going to post it anyway even though some of the info is outdated. Hopefully I can get this week's post out also.
We didn't have a whole lot of excitement around our house last week, and yet we seems to be busy as ever.
1. The biggest news we have is that we have a new nephew/cousin in our family! Krysta had her baby on Friday (congratulations!). He was 8 lbs. 4 oz. and 21 inches. His name is Ryan. Isn't he a doll?! I can't wait to meet him!
2. Sunday morning felt like cruel and unusual punishment. Once again, Daylight Savings Time has rocked my world. Honestly. It is so. darned. hard. for me to change my clock. I am tired! Since I usually get up around 6:30 to get the kids ready for church in the morning, it felt like 5:30. Church? Do we really need to go? Yes. We had a mission farewell and a homecoming for Reed's cousins on Sunday, and we didn't want to miss. They both gave excellent talks, and I'm so glad we went, but seriously, it felt early. Reed was up even earlier for his 6 am meetings, and I didn't hear one complaint from him. He's a trooper. I am not. I think it may be time to start a boycott against changing our clocks every 6 months.
3. As you can see, Reed has been keeping himself busy. After taking me out dancing on Friday night (Merengue and Samba this week---serious fun people!), he got to spend his entire Saturday afternoon digging. Unfortunately, instead of reaching gravel at the bottom of our window well, he found solid concrete. Hmm. We're not sure why there would be solid concrete at the bottom of our window wells, but we have a sneaking suspicion it may be the reason we can't get the water to drain. Ugh. What a pain. I think Reed is really looking forward to taking a break and filling in his brackets. Who wants to dig a trench when there's good basketball to watch?

4. I am also looking forward to taking a break from the daily grind. I'm headed to Arizona for a wedding this weekend, and I am so excited. My friend Megan is getting married on Saturday. I haven't seen her for a few years, and I can't wait to see her and meet her fiance. My friend Janie is also flying in, and we are going to have some quality girl time! The only problem is that I'm not sure how I'm going to get there. Yes, I have to leave in just a few days. No, I don't have tickets yet. Nice. We didn't jump on good ticket prices a few weeks ago, and now prices have doubled. So, if they don't come down quick, I may be driving. Road trip anyone?!
5. On Wednesday we took the kids out to the Draper temple open house. It took a long time! But, it was worth it. The kids had fun, and it was a beautiful temple. Plus, there were cookies at the end. You can get me to do pretty much anything for a cookie!
6. On Saturday night Reed and I went with some friends to Gardner Village. I had never been there, and it was a lot of fun. We didn't have very much time to look through the shops because they were closing, but I think it would be a lot of fun to go back and browse. They had a great little fabric shop where I bought this apron pattern. If I ever finish my pillows, this will be my next sewing project.
7. Last weekend we had someone come out to measure and draw up blueprints for the basement. We're trying to work out some of the kinks and decide exactly how we want to use the space. Once he finishes up the plans we'll get a few bids and decide if this is really the right time for us to finish the basement, but I'm starting to get excited about the project! We've decided to put a small kitchenette in the basement, and I can't decide if I should put an oven down there or not. I've had several people tell me that I will really want a second oven if we're going to stay in our home for a long time, but having it down in the basement is so inconvenient. My mom told me not to put one in the basement. . . "Just tear out some of your cabinets and put it in the kitchen." Yeah right. I don't see a kitchen remodel anywhere in the future, so if I want another oven, the basement is the place. Any thoughts?
I've also thought that I would really like to have some built in cabinets down there, so I've been looking for pictures that I like. I know this may be wishful thinking, but wouldn't these be great?

8. Okay. How about some more wishful thinking. Wouldn't it be great to have hair like this?
It's nearly spring, and I'm itching for a new haircut. This happens every spring. I really need a new cut, but I never get up the guts to do anything really different. Which is why I've had the same haircut since first grade. No joke. Anyhoo. . . I know my forehead well enough to know that it needs to be covered with bangs. So I started looking for picture if haircuts with bangs, and I really love how Katie's hair looks with bangs. I'm pretty sure I could never go this short, but it's still fun to dream right? Reed saw me looking at these pictures and our conversation went something like this:
Reed: Oh, I like the girl with the long hair.
Me: Yeah. The one with the long hair is supposed to be the ugly before shot, and the one with the short hair is the hot new cut that is setting style trends all over the world. Oh, by the way. . . it's the same girl.
Reed: That is not the same person.
Me: Yes. It is.
Reed: Long hair always looks better than short hair. Always. She looks so innocent with long hair.
Me: Yeah, pretty sure she's trying to ditch the school girl look.
What do you think? Does it look better long or short?
9. More wishful thinking here. . .
I am so tired of the kids books looking like this:
I've had my eye on this for awhile:
Do any of you have a bookshelf like this? I'm hoping it will help the kids keep their books a little more organized.
I also saw this idea online and thought it might be a fun project. I don't have enough projects to do.
10. Speaking of projects, I've been wearing my arm warmers, but they are starting to fuzz up. I thought I might make another pair with cotton yarn and see if that keeps it from fuzzing up. I think I'm going to try this pattern.
See ya soon!

Great post! Hope you had a great trip to Az! Miss you guys!
Come on go for the short haircut. It would be super cute!!!! Plus if you don't like it it will always grow back.
Congrats to Krysta!
Here's my take on the hair -
1. Katie Holmes is an actress - normal people can never make their hair look that good, even if they get a good cut.
2. You have great hair. I think it's way too thick to cut it short. Plus, you should listen to Reed's opinion - he's the one you are trying to impress, right?
3. I'm tyring to convince myself that anyone can look good with long or short hair...but I don't think it's true. You always tell me I look way better with short hair...and I think you would look better with long hair. Although, I'm trying once again to grow my hair out to see if I like it long and styled.
