Holiday Festivities

This has been such a crazy week! I thought I'd share some of the highlights:

  1. We bought a new car! We bought a 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L with the DVD player in Midnight Blue Pearl. We picked it up on Wednesday night and have thoroughly enjoyed it since. I can tell that Reed is jealous that I get to drive it. He came home last night and said "So, did you have fun driving the van today?" Maybe someday Reed will get to buy himself a truck and all will be right in the world! On lives the blasted car fund. Initially we were going to buy a dark gray one without the DVD player. Our dealership worked out a trade with another dealership so we could have the color we wanted. They went and picked up the car and did an inspection and found out the car had been in an accident. By then, the only color they had left was the red which neither of us liked. When you're spending that much money you want to at least like the color! So, we decided to upgrade a bit and get the blue with the DVD. I'm so glad we did. I really love the color and the DVD will be so nice to have on long trips.

2. Thanksgiving was great. We had a small crowd this year at my parents' house. Mom was sick, so Dad did all of the cooking. I was pretty impressed that he pulled it all off. Alison brought her new boyfriend Zach to dinner. We really like him. Anyway, I think there were only 12 of us including the kids, but that makes it more intimate, right? My pictures didn't turn out very well due to poor lighting, but here are a couple that turned out.

Grandma's Rum Raisin Rolls. Yum! I brought my Cranberry-Apple Jello salad, and helped make the pumpkin pie, but the best part of the meal was Dad's squash soup and homemade bread.

3. Black Friday. Yes, I did it. I actually went shopping at 5:30 AM. This is a big feat considering my diminished brain capacity any time before the sun comes up. I went to Toys R Us at 5:30 AM, which was a big mistake, because there was already a 2 1/2 hour wait to check out. I just left and headed over to Target. The line just to get in the doors wrapped all the way across the front of the building, down the side and around the back a ways. Unbelievable! I had a great time. For some reason, seeing all of those other crazy people shopping gives me a rush. It seriously cracked me up when the lady in front of me told another lady not to butt in line and they got into a bit of a "tiff." I spent WAY too much money, and I've got to take a ton of stuff back, but I got a lot of really great deals. I found a lot of really fun toys for the kids. How do I choose what to keep? I also found a lot of really fun things for myself, including these black boots. Aren't they great? I honestly am still recovering from this shopping trip. I am so tired, and my muscles are sore from carrying around all of the stuff I wanted to buy. It's a bit ridiculous. Definitely time for me to start working out again!

4. On Saturday I got to go over to Aunt Mindy's house with the rest of the girls from Reed's family. I made this pretty wreath with clippings from her yard. I love how it turned out, but I think I need to change the bow.

5. On Sunday my awesome neighbor Jessica invited us over for Thanksgiving Dinner Round 2. She is such a great cook, and everything was delicious. She asked me to bring this pumpkin dessert. It was sooo good. That's because it had 2 (yes 2) sticks of butter in it. I can't make this again for a very long time!

6. Janie and McKay came to visit from California. That smart little boy already knows his letters! Someday maybe we'll be able to have a conversation without the kids interrupting every 3 minutes.
7. I got to go see Valerie's new baby girl. She is such a doll! It is amazing to see how big Blake is compared to her.
8. I almost forgot. . . Scrapbooking with the girls on Tuesday. What fun. I am just about finished with Blake's baby book. Hooray! Reed was doing some work on the computer while we were scrapbooking, and afterward he said "that Lacey is really funny." I had to agree. Thanks for the laughs Lacey!
Anyway, as you can see, I've been busy. I guess I better get back to the mountain of laundry that I've been neglecting. . .

Congrats on the van. The navy blue is my favorite color. Glad to see I'm not the only crazy one who ventured out on Black Friday...it's always an adventure!

First of all I just have to say that I am soooo JEALOUS!!! I would love that van! It's pretty much exactly what I want. Of course, if we're talking wants I guess I'd rather go for a Honda Pilot, but I've got to be at least slightly practical. We'll have to wait and see what's available in January. Secondly, I too love your boots. I'm always looking for a good pair of leather boots (on sale, of course) that don't have a 3+ inch heel. I haven't found any yet (that are in my price range). Where did you get yours? As for Black Friday, I am definitely an online shopper. I'm loving the new tradition of Cyber Monday! All of that spending while I'm still in my slippers!

I absolutely LOVE the new boots! Nice! And congrats on the new car too - you mentioned something about a "maybe" so I'm happy to see it worked out. It was so great to see you, even if we were interrupted every 3 minutes. Over Christmas let's get together for a kid-free lunch!
