I loved this book! I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith is written as a series of journal entries by Cassandra Mortmain, a 17-year-old girl who is trying to learn how to write a novel. Cassandra lives with her family in a crumbling, old castle in the English countryside in the the 1930's, and she spends hours writing and musing about her family and their circumstances. As the narrator of the book, Cassandra has a witty and endearing voice. The characters are funny and eccentric and are constantly doing crazy things. This book is a coming of age story full of longing, heartbreak, and unpredictable love triangles. I don't often re-read books, but this is one I will come back to. Friday, October 24, 2008
