I read this book in high school and loved it, and months ago I decided to re-read it. It had been on my nightstand for quite some time, so I was excited when it was chosen for book club. I remembered nearly nothing about the book from the first time I read it, so I was able to enjoy it thoroughly and be surprised at the outcome. This book had a complex plot and excellent writing and I'm so glad I took the time to read it again. These are my favorite quotes from the book:"I don't think man was meant to obtain happiness so easily. Happiness is like those palaces in fairy tales whose gates are guarded by dragons: we must fight in order to conquer it. "
"(The count was) completely surrounded; everyone was striving to have the honor of speaking with him, as always happens with people who speak little and never say a word without value."
