I just finished this one, and I'm kind-of glad it's over. Terry Ryan tells the story of her amazing mother who raised 10 children and supplemented her husband's income by writing jingles and entering contests. The story is actually very good, and there were a couple of times the book had me laughing out loud. Living in a small home with 12 people is sure to produce some funny stories. Also, it is fun to read about some of the cool things her mother won---like a 10 minute shopping spree at the grocery store that netted her the equivalent of $4,000 in food. But, the book wasn't very well-written, and was slow and boring in spots. That said, I'm glad I read it. Mrs. Ryan was a woman who could have had a successful career, yet never regretted choosing motherhood. She relished in life---even when she had to put up with an abusive, alcoholic husband, 10 children, and appliances and cars that were always on their last legs. This was a fun, uplifting, easy read. . . just a bit slow at times.

I can't believe all the things that have happened this year! If I had read about all these things before the year began I would have been stunned! It's a crazy world we live in.
Did you see the movie, too? I really liked it (but I also really liked the book...)
