This was a crazy busy Halloween. I hit the ground running first thing in the morning, and didn't stop until midnight I'm sure. Somehow I got talked into helping with both Michael's and Blake's class parties that day. I'm not the mom who volunteers once a week for reading centers and such, but I do like to help with parties, and the kids really love it when I get to come to their classes.
I got to help with snacks at Michael's class, and crafts in Blake's class. Blake is big time into paper crafts right now. He started making Halloween decorations and taping them to the front of our house. When he ran out of room outside, he started taping them up inside too. I love the creativity, but not the mess! I decided to wear my new witch hat that I was super excited about this year, but it drove me crazy all day! Maybe I just have a big head, but it didn't fit well, and was sliding off all day. What a disappointment!
For dinner we had a witches brew. I love that the kids are still young enough to be exited about dry ice in in their root beer! We also had tacos for dinner. I decided to ditch the chili tradition, because none of my kids will eat it!
Ty asked to be a mummy this year, so I made him a costume (thanks for the inspiration Pinterest!). It turned out really well and was fun to make. At the last minute he decided to be a mummy ninja - hence the ninja pose!
Ethan did not want to dress up. He turned down every offer I made him, but we finally tricked him into this Elmo costume. He definitely figured out the trick-or-treating thing though. He's been on a kick where he has to tell everyone that he's two. Apparently that also means that he won't leave your doorstep until you put at least 2 pieces of candy in his bucket. The other kids were jealous that he got the most candy!
Michael was Harry Potter this year - of course! His sweet piano teacher loaned him the cloak and the wand, and his costume turned out great!
Blake was a Jedi. We didn't figure out his costume until that afternoon, and I was so relieved when he agreed to wear stuff we already had in the Halloween bin! Blake got lost just a few minutes after they started trick-or-treating. Reed knew immediately that he was gone, but they were at a 4-way stop, and didn't know which way he had gone. Panic! Thanks so much to our friend John who took the rest of our kids while we searched. And, a huge thank you to the stranger who found him and called me to come get him. Oh! It is the worst feeling to have your child missing - even for just a few minutes.
We had a great Halloween. Tons of candy and lots of fun. It was a bit stressful this year, but still one of my favorite holidays.
