Ten for Tuesday 4.22.08

1. Happy Earth Day! I've been trying to take advantage of my neighbor's new free recycling program, and in just a couple of weeks I already have several bags full of cans and plastic containers to recycle. I also took 4 bags full of plastic bags over to Albertson's for recycling on Saturday. I'm baby stepping, but I really am trying to live up to being called a Tree Hugger!
2. This is me trying to have a nice, quiet conversation with my friend Janie who just had a baby. I couldn't find a spot in the house where my kids would leave me alone, so I finally went out to sit in the car. When Reed found me he thought it was pretty funny.
3. I got to have lunch with a bunch of my old friends on Wednesday. I've known one of them since elementary school, but most of them from junior high and high school. We've been friends for over 10 years now and still love getting together. I am so lucky to have such great friends!
We had lunch at Holly's new house, which, as you can see, is just gorgeous and all decked out! These are our kids. What a crazy group!
4. On Saturday I was in charge of a big service project for our ward. I was just a little bit stressed getting it all together. I think everyone in my family is glad that Saturday has come and gone.
5. #%!$**! Fire Alarm! This part of the post has been edited for your reading enjoyment, but let's just say I was not happy about my retarded fire alarm going off repeatedly last week. What a pain in the neck! We changed the battery, turned off the power, removed the battery. . . nothing would make it stop! The worst was when we tried to just pull the entire thing out of the ceiling, and the sirens went off all over the house. I was so mad, I was on the verge of tears. Aaargh! How irritating! Thank goodness we have an awesome neighbor who helped us fix the problem so we could all get some rest.
6. According to Grandpa (who took Michael to his soccer game on Saturday) Michael made 3-4 goals at his game. Awesome! And, only one of them was for the other team. Way to go!
7. Michael is so proud that he is now old enough to take a shower instead of a bath! I love it because he goes up and showers and gets dressed all by himself now, and there is no more fighting with Ty about who gets the pirate ducky in the tub.
8. I was planning to start potty training Ty In a week when my schedule has calmed down a bit, but on Monday morning he took off his diaper and refused to put on another one, so I guess we are potty training now. Oh the joys! I think this is going to be a long haul.
9. Does anyone else have a kid who thinks Kleenex is their comfort item? When Ty is throwing a tantrum he cannot calm himself down without a tissue. Forget about a blanket or teddy bear, he wants a Kleenex!
10. Does anyone else have kids who still request "Jingle Bells" and "Jingle Bell Rock" every night as a bed time song? I know that the weather still feels like December, but I am so done with Christmas Music!

Jessica you did an awesome job on the humanitarian project for the
2nd year in a row. I'm so impressed with your recycling skills. I started recycling and when there wasn't a bin to throw it in I totally threw it in the trash rather than driving to Albertson's. I'm so lazy but now I thinkI'll try a bit harder. It's kinda sad when you have to hide in your car to get a little peace and quiet but hey do what you gotta do to survive.

My kids want tissues when they are upset. The worst part is they want their nose and eyes wiped a certain way or they start crying again.

Ethan still doesn't take showers. He was afraid of them for a long time. Now he loves them but ends up plugging the drain and getting all of his toys out anyway, so I still make him take a bath so that we don't waste so much water.

I can't believe Utah still doesn't have a recycling program. Our recycling bin is twice as big as our garbage can - it's like they force you to recycle because there is no way you can fit everything into the garbage can.

The picture of you in the car is hilarious!

Oh yeah, and all the ol' high school buddies still look great. I can't believe how many kids there are.

I love that you had to get in the car for some peace and quiet. Hilarous! I am soooo working on the Recycle bins I promise. Just trying to find some used ones first. Before I cause even more plastic in this world!
THe tissue think is silly. I have never heard of that.
You did an amazing job at the Humanitarian Project and it was so fufulling and inspring for me. I am going to start playing the lottery in hopes that I win enough to quit my job and travel the world giving people stuff. Those kids always make me cry to. Again awesome job. Good luck with potty training Ty!

Hey Jessica,

I linked to your blog from Janie's and I must say I love your 10 for Tuesday posts! I hear you about being done with Christmas. My 3 year old is obsessed! We have to sing O Come All Ye Faithful every night and he wants to look at Christmas books all year round. I hope this phase ends soon!
